the founder and editor-in-chief of Midwifery Today magazine
“The “Birthing in Love: Everyone’s Right” conference, held June 9–13 in Moscow, Russia, was a joint, international effort between Midwifery Today and Katerina’s Domashniy Rebenok (Home Child) magazine. And what a conference! We fell in love with Russia and it was a joy to meet so many warm, caring people at our conference. Learning about all of the amazing work they’re doing in Russia—especially in and with water — was a special benefit of this event. We learned that there are many doctor-midwife centers in Moscow that do homebirths, as well as prenatal care and exercise for women. The intensity with which each of these practitioners holds the space for mothers and babies in these difficult times and situations was encouraging. New ideas were flowing at every step of the way during this miraculous event. The goals we reached were beyond our expectations and we have established a new hope for the future of birth in Russia and around the world.”

Philipp and Katerina Perkhov,
the Conference Organisers
When we prepared our first international conference in 2010 we believed that by joining together the best birth experts from all over the world, we could change childbirth in Russia and bringing birth back to the family. We dreamed about having independent midwifery and homebirth without punishment, respectful care in hospitals, and a loving birth community. It was the, at the first conference our parents and midwives were united and created the “MAMA” organization, because only by working together can we protect the Human Rights in Childbirth.
More than 150 midwives, doctors and parents from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, USA and Europe gathered at the first international conference to learn from each other and returned home inspired by new ideas, new experience and most importantly — knowing that they are not alone. Everywhere on the earth there are midwives, and there are women who just keep doing what they believe in.
It's been only 6 years but it feels like a lifetime. We held 6 conferences in Moscow and St. Petersburg, which were attended by more than 1,000 parents and professionals from around the world! Childbirth in Russia has changed beyond recognition. Aspiring midwives have become serious professionals. The doula movement is rapidly growing. Hospitals are offering "home births”…
However, gentle and safe births surrounded by loving people are still an impossible dream for most families. Therefore, in June 2017, we will come together again to become one step closer to the midwifery that our grandchildren will be proud of. Join in to be a part of this greater change and movement that has transformed Russia’s childbirth practices.
This conference is for you If you are a:
- Mother and you are afraid of giving birth.
- Midwife and you do not have enough inspiration and support.
- Revolutionary Doctor and Colleagues who do not understand the desire for water birth or delayed cord clamping.
